The new RCD Espanyol Stadium, located between Cornellà and El Prat de Llobregat, features three tiers of seating with a capacity for 39,276 spectators, expandable to 41,057, with almost the entire area covered.
Within the stadium itself, numerous commercial spaces, conference rooms, multipurpose rooms, as well as the club’s offices, museum, and merchandise store were built. The stadium also includes a 280-space parking facility.
Technically notable is the structure supporting the roof: four metal trusses spanning 200 m and 160 m, which support the four rectangular canopies surrounding the stadium. Two of these canopies are equipped with photovoltaic panels capable of generating 600 kW of power.
The stadium was awarded the prestigious Stadium Business Award 2010, selected among more than a thousand submissions. The jury praised the project’s economic viability, the excellent value for money in its construction, and the environmental awareness and sustainable design principles applied.
