114-La Fageda

Expansion of the Fageda production facilities (Phase 1), Santa Pau ]

La Fageda is a Catalan cooperative with a non-profit social initiative, founded in Olot (Girona) in 1982, aimed at integrating people from the La Garrotxa region who have severe mental disabilities into the workplace. La Fageda has been producing yoghurts and dairy products for more than 20 years from its factory located in the “Fageda d’en Jordà”, an area of outstanding landscape protection within the Garrotxa Natural Park.

After the complex processing of a Special Use Plan, a facilities renovation and extension project is being undertaken: the first phase deals with the production facilities and later phases deal with the assistance and support facilities.

This first phase includes the construction of a new cold room with capacity for 1.7 million yoghurts in a 700 m2 building, to which the ice cream production facilities formerly located in Badalona would also be moved.

This phase also includes the construction of a new building of about 400 m2, where the new biomass steam boiler, the water treatment room with its corresponding underground tanks, a workshop and the air compressor room are located.

The unique conditions of the project include the fact that the works have been carried out without interrupting the production of La Fageda at any time, as well as the need to execute the entire construction process (project, permits, tender and works) within a period of 6 months, in order to be eligible for European ERDF aid.
